joined our projects in AnyTeach/Ideas Camp
Please you us about some of your most enjoyable moments of the trip?
There were not any particularly enjoyable moments working with AnyTeach. Contrastingly, the experience with IDEAS has been overwhelmingly positive. There has been a lot of support from colleagues and managers, the children are well behaved and want to partake and there is a huge array of activities to run/assist with. One particular highlight has been taking the children to the beach and also taking them hiking on their last day in camp.
Which were the highlights of the lessons, cultural excursions and outdoor activities?
IDEAS camp does not run any lessons teaching English; my role here has been to assist or lead classes and outdoor activities. As mentioned above, there is a huge variety of activities taking place in the camp and I have enjoyed them all. It is particularly great that the camp is located next to the beach.
How would you say the overall experience has benefited you?
My time with IDEAS has benefitted me in that I have had a couple of weeks working in a really positive environment where the children are enjoying themselves.
Although I did not have a positive experience with AnyTeach it has been beneficial in that I have first hand seen how some language centres in China operate (i.e. as a purely financial exercise/very little organisation planning/unrealistic expectations/little to no benefit for the children). From this I know what to look out for in the future when applying for a job teaching English in China.
What was the best thing about your experience in China?
Getting to live and work next to the beach.
Would you recommend participating to a friend and if so why?
I would recommend this service for someone who is looking for a way to gain their TEFL certificate whilst having their living expenses paid for.
