Hannah Foley joined our project at English House in Xi’An in the summer of 2017. To view her feedback, please read on:

Could you please tell us about some of your most enjoyable moments of the trip?

My best moments of the trip were mainly organised by myself and the other foreigners. We organised a lot of visits to touristic areas which were great. Further, the staff at English House were lovely and Sherry, Ellen and Linda particularly made our trip very enjoyable. For example, Ellen and Linda took me and two other girls shopping which was very fun. Also Peter took some of us swimming which was good fun.

Which were the highlights of the lessons, cultural excursions and outdoor activities?

English House didn’t organise any activities for us other than the swimming trip which was organised by Peter. However, they did give us some money when we told them we were planning on going to Mount Huashan, which was an incredible experience. The Mandarin lessons were also good, however 3 hours of Mandarin is a bit too much in one go!

How would you say the overall experience has benefited you?

It has definitely been a life experience, and taught me more about the world of work and organisation. Teaching was extremely rewarding and it has helped me to understand more about language and how children learn, as well as preparing me for future opportunities related to teaching.

What was the best thing about your experience in China?

The teaching was extremely rewarding and the people I met were fantastic. I have made some lifelong friends in China who I would love to stay in touch with. Further, living in a new and exciting environment is a great change from normal reality.

Would you recommend participating to a friend and if so why?

Gaining a qualification is extremely useful and it helps you to develop new skills. Further, the people at English House were very kind and accommodating, particularly Sherry, Ellen and Linda, thus I would definitely recommend everyone to go to English House.
