Alexander Bruce joined our projects in Dahuwai Yangshuo
Please you us about some of your most enjoyable moments of the trip?
The most enjoyable moments of my trip were playing with the kids and going out with the other teachers. The water fight was good fun and learning to rock climb was a great experience. The best night out was when Simon took all the teachers (Chinese and Western) to KTV. Exploring the area around Yangshuo was fun too. Climbing the TV tower for the sunrise had the most impressive scenery.
Which were the highlights of the lessons, cultural excursions and outdoor activities?
The best outdoor activities were the trip to the island, the rock climbing, and the water fight. The highlight of the lessons was playing games with the kids. The best excursions were climbing the tv tower, visiting Xingping, white water drifting, and KTV.
How would you say the overall experience has benefited you?
The experience has given me a lot more confidence working with kids and in public speaking. The added cultural experience is always useful when interacting with foreigners. My Chinese has improved a lot and my teaching ability.
What was the best thing about your experience in China?
The best thing was getting to know all the people and the area. I made new friends in the teachers, got to know more about China through the local teachers and kids, and learnt a lot about working with children.
Would you recommend participating to a friend and if so why?
I would recommend a friend to go teach in China. It is an amazing experience; I learnt many new skills and a lot about Chinese culture, which is a useful thing to have these days.
