Feedback Alice May Nash

Alice joined our programme in Shantou (BOB DZ) in the summer of 2017. Please read on for her feedback.

Please can you tell us about some of your most enjoyable moments of the trip?

I loved getting to know the teachers in the school and also loved that I was part of a big group of foreign teachers. The welcome and leaving parties at our school were lovely and we enjoyed the trips every weekend lots! The school really made an effort to help us explore China as much as we could.

Which were the highlights of the lessons, cultural excursions and outdoor activities?

The highlights of the lessons were getting to know the students and preparing for the bilingual festival with them! We were able to have a lot of fun preparing a song and play, and it helped me to bond with the students more. We were taken on journeys to some of the teachers’ hometowns and we were able to meet a lot of welcoming people and experience a different culture.

How would you say the overall experience has benefited you?

It has benefited me a lot in the sense that I now have more experience in teaching and working with children. I have really enjoyed working in Shantou and would not hesitate to return.

What was the best thing about your experience in China?

The best thing about the experience was becoming close friends with the other foreign teachers. There was a group of 19 of us and we all worked well as a team. Also experiencing the new culture and realizing how different life is in another place was so interesting!

Would you recommend participating to a friend and if so why?

I would definitely recommend the programme to a friend because it’s a great opportunity to meet new friends, experience new culture and gain some life long skills. The overall experience was extremely rewarding and so I would recommend to any of my friends.
