VIDEO!

We are recruiting for April 2024! Please note this video was made for our group 2022 intake, so some elements may have changed for the 2024 orientation and placement locations. The video gives you an introduction to how our programmes work and what teaching in Thailand is like generally.

What do you get?

Our Thailand Teaching Fellowship is your launchpad for a global and impactful career. On the programme, you will receive:

  • Full funding to cover your flights, meals and accommodation during your initial training and orientation tourism.
  • Trinity CertTESOL training and certification in Thailand, with accommodation and food provided.
  • Guaranteed 5-month internship contract in a school in Thailand with monthly allowance, accommodation and visa support, with the option to extend to a full year.
  • Great teaching locations in local mid-sized cities within 6 hours of Bangkok, such as Sri Ratcha, Chachoengsao, Chanthaburi, Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat), Phitsanulok and Khon Kaen.
  • Professional development mentoring and training throughout your time in Thailand, with a focus on teaching and social enterprise. We do this so that your fellowship with us becomes a first step in a lifetime of interesting and impactful living.
  • Personal and community support, including 24/7 support for emergencies.
  • Visa and work permit support, including all paperwork, processed by our team.

What does the training include?

Before starting your teaching placement in Thailand, you will join our teaching and Thai culture training programme. The training will start from the programme beginning, and all your accommodation and meals will be funded in the orientation period too. The training will include:

  • Intensive Trinity CertTESOL training at a hotel in Thailand.
  • Teaching on an intensive English camp in a rural area to hone your skills.
  • Thai culture and language lessons.
  • Cultural introduction to Thailand, including learning about local businesses, cooking, customs, and more.
The training period will be intensive to prepare you for teaching in Thai schools and to help you settle into life in Thailand, and it will also include lots of fun cultural activities.

What does the teaching involve?

You will be teaching English to local Thai students, usually in a primary school setting (although there will be some secondary school and nursery/kindergarten positions). The Thai school year is split into two terms, one in May-October, and the second in November-March.  We invite you to join us prior to a term commencement in order to receive the core teacher training and to give you enough time to learn about the country on our funded cultural tour.

  • You will be teaching English to local Thai students, usually in a primary school, but also some nursery, kindergatern and secondary school positions, from Monday to Friday, from about 7.30am to 4.30pm (exact school days vary depending on the school).
  • The Thai school year is split into two semesters, the first starting in May and the second in November, with longer holidays in April and October.
  • You will be in a great location, within six hours of Bangkok, with at least two members of your training cohort and continuous community support from our team.
  • You will earn a monthly allowance and be provided with accommodation directly.
  • You will receive continuous professional development support and mentoring to support you in your teaching and with your future career plans.
  • You will live in a local Thai mid-sized city where you can immerse yourself in the local community and learn Thai.
  • You will continue your CertTESOL training while you are teaching at the school. The teaching and training will be intense at times, and will prepare you for a global teaching career.

To apply you need to:

  • Meet our eligibility criteria, discussed here. You need a degree for most long-term positions in Thailand due to work visa requirements, but to ensure inclusivity we work to have a number of positions for non-degree holders. If you do not hold a degree, please email us to review your options.
  • Be a native English speaker, or have native-level English – which can usually be demonstrated if you have a degree from a university in the UK*

  • Have a clean criminal record
  • Be available and excited to travel to Thailand in line with the in-takes listed at the bottom of this page
  • Holding a prior TEFL certificate is a bonus, but not required; Trinity CertTESOL training and certification is provided.

There is extra support available for applicants from widening participation backgrounds, including all funding you may need to make this happen. You will be able to indicate if this applies to you on your application form.

*We can consider candidates with non-UK university backgrounds and those who do not have the right to work in the UK, but they would not always be eligible for full funding for the Trinity CertTESOL and flights. If this applies to you, please apply and contact us by email to let us know more about your situation. We always strive to be flexible and helpful!

Do we really need to convince you?

Thailand is a friendly country with so much more than that meets the eye initially. Yes, there are sun-kissed beaches, tropical rainforests, and delicious food, but there’s so much more besides.

With this programme you will be living in local communities off the standard tourist trail, experiencing a different culture and immersing yourself in new perspectives and experiences. If you want to try something different to your usual way of life back home, then Thailand will be an ideal choice to kickstart your teaching journey.

You’re also guaranteed to make lifelong friends and networks that will enrich your life and take you (and your career) further than you could ever get staying at home.

Spending six months or more in Thailand will also increase your understanding of Asia, and Southeast Asia in particular, setting you up for a wide-range of career options and making you stand out in future job applications.

If you want to learn more about what living and travelling in Thailand is like, you might enjoy Paddy Doyle’s Youtube channel.

Anything! Your Thailand fellowship will give you the time, space, and support to work out what you want to do next: whether that be continuing in teaching, returning to work in the UK, or continuing your travels in another country.

Our professional development programme will support you in working out your interests, values and skills and in identifying what career areas you want to pursue.

There is sometimes flexibility on dates in certain circumstances. If you would like to join the programme but have any issues with the dates below, please email us so that we can discuss your situation and see if you’re able to join the programme (recruitment@go-to.co).

The next intensive training and pre-teaching tourism will run from 1st April 2024. This date is not flexible.

You will then join your school in May to get settled before term starts.

Your initial fellowship and training runs from April to October 2024.

You then graduate! You will have the option to stay for a second term of teaching from October 2024 to March 2025 or to leave to go travelling, return to the UK, or start a new job somewhere else.

To join the programme, you must commit to completing at least the semester (April-October) to qualify for the Trinity TESOL Certification, flight funding and professional development support.

Along with CELTA, Trinity TESOL is the gold standard in Teaching of English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) qualifications. The certification will allow you to teach in schools all over the world and will boost your CV and employability if you choose to pursue a career outside of teaching. As the gold standard for TEFLs, the Trinity TESOL is a higher level than most entry-level TEFLs and sets you up for faster career progression. The Trinity TESOL training is delivered by an approved provider. o.co/article/42-what-is-tesol

Two of the absolute best parts of becoming a TEFL teacher after graduating are the freedom it gives you to travel the world and the flexibility that it gives your career, as well as the space it gives you to work out what you want to do longer term. TEFL stands out as the best way to get abroad after graduation, even amid the pandemic.

Flying around the world to start a TEFL/TESOL adventure can be a daunting (and exciting!) prospect, but for many people it’s the best decision they ever made. In six years living in Asia, we (Danny, Richard, and Lisha, the Gotoco Co-founders) have met hundreds of people who flew abroad on a whim to teach, and went on to revel in it: travelling the world, starting their own businesses, teaching in international schools, becoming travel writers, and much more.

To see an interview with three people who did TEFL/TESOL after leaving university, check out our webinar from July 2021 on Youtube here.

Eligible applicants will receive full funding that covers the training and programme costs, including flights, visa, Trinity TESOL training, and pre-teaching tourism.

This means that the programme is fully accessible with no upfront cost to you. You do, however, need to pay a small commitment deposit (£200) when your application is accepted and place is confirmed. This deposit is returned when you start your teaching placement in Thailand.

There is also extra support available for applicants from widening participation backgrounds, including all funding you may need to make this happen. You will be able to indicate if this applies to you on your application form and we will contact you with more information.

We will support you throughout the visa process. You will first obtain a visa for entry into Thailand in the UK, before processing your work permit after arrival in Thailand. Our experienced team will help you throughout the process, including preparing the required documentation. You will be given more information about this process at the relevant point in the application process.

No! But you will be given Thai lessons during your teacher training to make sure you know enough to get around and have a good grounding in the language. You’ll then be able to keep learning the language throughout your time in Thailand.

We will review your application and get back to you within 7 days about the next steps, including a video interview with our team, giving you the opportunity to ask any questions that you have.

If you’re successful, you’ll be invited to confirm your place by signing our terms and paying a small commitment deposit (£200). The commitment deposit will be returned to you once you start your teaching placement in Thailand.

We will then guide you through the visa and flight booking processand make sure you’re fully prepared for travelling to Thailand.

No! You will be joining 45 fellows and our team for your TESOL training and pre-teaching tourism.

On your teaching placement, you will be in a lively local town or city with at least two other Thailand Teaching fellows, as well as your fellow teachers at the school, to ensure you have a strong community support network as you settle into your new life.

The town or city you’re in will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a local community, be prepared to learn Thai, make local friends, and to throw yourself into life in Thailand.

Our team will also be on hand throughout your stay to support you and we will hold regular community events both online and in-person to make sure you get the most out of your time in Thailand.

Your exact location will usually be confirmed during orientation in October. All of the teaching placements will be in local mid-sized towns and cities, giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a local community. You will always be in a group of at least three fellows in the same location.

Placements will usually be within six hours of Bangkok, in mid-sized cities such as Sri Ratcha, Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat), Chachoengsao, Khon Kaen, Surin, Chanthaburi and Phitsanulok. These are local towns that give you a chance to immerse yourself in a local community and learn all about Thailand. We will ask you your preferences and try to match you as closely as possible to them, but cannot guarantee that every preference will be met as our partner schools run a competitive selection process. Please note that very few placements are near a beach.

You will receive extensive support from us and your school in settling in to your new location for your teaching placement.

To be eligible for full funding for the programme (such as for flights and the Trinity TESOL), you need to have the right to work in the UK. This could be through citizenship, residency, leave to remain, a student visa, or other kinds of visa that give you the right to work in the UK.

If you do not have the right to work in the UK, we can still assist you with obtaining a teaching placement in Thailand and other countries in Asia with a good salary, but you would need to fund yourself if you want to join our Trinity TESOL training. If you are in this situation and would like more information, please send us an email to recruitment@go-to.co.
