Please can you tell us about some of your most enjoyable moments of the trip?
My kids in the 3 classes I taught were awesome! I am still in touch with some of them.
I liked our Chinese lessons, especially because our teacher really took into account our feedback.
I appreciated being based in the center of Dongguan and exploring the city.
Yangshuo trips were also great. I would say I have done a lot of different things in my life, but Yangshuo was truly unforgettable.Restaurants that we were brought to by school coordinators were superb!
How would you say the overall experience has benefited you?
I learned a lot about China and its people from full time teachers, our TEFL refresher guy named Wesley, faculty and random strangers in China and from my weekend trips that we organized. I learned how to be extremely flexible and not being puzzled by a last minute change. It was very beneficial to learn about the career possibilities within ESL teaching and others in China.
I definitely improved my public speaking skills, which I’ve been wanting to do for quite a long time. Dreams do come true!
I learned a bit of Chinese to communicate and improved my haggling skills in local markets. I made SO MANY friends!
I rediscovered East Asia for myself and saw places I wouldn’t mind living in in the future.
I learned how to teach, and teach well, so parents of my students contacted me after the project and showed off their children’s progress. I learned how to be professional in what I do from our TEFL refresher.Honestly, I’ve been on multiple fully-funded trips in many countries around the world so far, and this one has been the most beneficial one to me in terms of learning.
What was the best thing about your experience in China?
Learning about the people, their culture, their language and the business opportunities there.
Would you recommend participating to a friend and if so why?
Definitely. I loved it and would recommend! A truly great experience to broaden one’s horizons!
