Rachel Story, Leeds University

Rachel joined our programme in the city of Dongguan in the summer of 2016, please read on for her feedback.

Can you tell us about some of your most enjoyable moments of the trip?

It’s safe to say that I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the trip. The experience was amazing, the children and the school was incredible and I have made friends for life with the other volunteers.

Which were the highlights of the lessons, cultural excursions and outdoor activities?

Highlight is two things. The entire school water fight; it was so much fun. And the end performance for the children, it was so sweet to see them put their heart and soul into it. I participated too.

How would you say the overall experience has benefited you?

I have gained experience like no other. It’s something i can carry through into careers. Faced so many challenges, both small and large. From as simple as lesson planing or just travelling to the school.

What was the best thing about your experience in China?

The other volunteers. I felt like we were such a team and genuine friends. we helped each other teach, we had the best time. The school was amazing too!

Would you recommend participating to a friend and if so why?

YES YES YES! (already have!). It’s like nothing you can expect. I didn’t think id enjoy it as much as I did. highly recommend for those who want to teach.
