The programme is intended to help you to launch a career in teaching abroad, and to develop and gain transferable skills to teach in Europe – or anywhere in the world.

Why Romania?
Our programme in Romania gives you the opportunity to try out teaching in a fun summer camp environment, where you will have the opportunity to lead activities and join trips in Romania each weekend.
During the camp in either Predeal or Paltinis (near Sibiu), each day you will start with a morning routine and continue with different creative tasks you and the camp participants will get to complete and make your own! Games, drama, arts and crafts – you will definitely be able to get artistic. Your morning lessons would usually consist of activities like this, when after a lunch break – trips, hikes and sports will guarantee an energetic afternoon!
While your focus during the programme will be on teaching and the summer camps, you will also get to explore and see Romania, and start a summer of backpacking, especially if you interrail! Romania truly is a hidden gem for travel.
During this programme, you will visit:

Brasov in Transylvania, surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains -
Sighișoara, a mediaeval citadel and UNESCO World Heritage Site -
Mountain resorts: Sinaia, Predeal, and Busteni, with visits to famous landmarks, such as Dracula’s Castle -
Bucharest, Romania’s capital, for a fun final two nights
What does the programme involve?
This programme offers you an insight into teaching abroad. You will gain knowledge and experience in teaching through leading lessons and activities on a summer camp, while studying towards a TEFL certificate.
During this programme, you will:

Gain valuable teaching and work experience, including references for future jobs and a TEFL certificate -
Interrail to and from camp (Interrailing is optional but highly recommended!) -
Teach English and lead games, creative and sports activities with Romanian kids and your fellow Gotoco'ers -
Learn about Romania and Romanian culture from locals -
Meet and make friends with Gotoco'ers and other participants from around the world -
Enjoy cultural trips during and at the end of the programme -
Access continuous professional development support to guide you in your teaching and with your future career -
Start a summer of backpacking!
The daily camp schedule includes:

Morning lessons: informal English lessons with games, mime, debate and drama -
Afternoon activities: trips, hikes, music, drama, sports, arts and crafts, games and more! -
Evening activities: disco, traditional dance night, talent show, camp fire, karaoke, night
How can you secure funding?
We want to make teaching and travel more accessible, so we arrange funding for all our programmes.
Our TEFL programme in Romania is available to those accessing pre-arranged university funding with one of our university partners on our TEFL Insight programme.

Why Interrail?
Turn your summer teaching experience into a real adventure!
Interrailing allows you to traverse the continent on your way to and from your summer camp. You’ll see what many other travellers won’t. Interesting towns and countryside – you will get to learn how to travel by yourself or in a group of travellers with the challenge of figuring out “where to next?” You will have the chance to meet other backpackers on their way around Europe too!
If you are on your university funding and meet your university’s widening participation criteria, then you may also be eligible to receive funding towards your travel. You should speak with your university funding department about this.

How is your final camp location confirmed?
On the form below, you can confirm your interest in our Romania programmes.
We will then speak with our partners across Europe and invite you to interview with the right camp for you. Some camps will require you to complete a pre-interview task as well to help them to get to know you better.
Please note that team selection is a competitive process with our European partners and selections are made based on a range of factors, including a balance of skills and experience within a team. This means that your first choice cannot be guaranteed, but we will work with our partners to match you to one of your top five choices, and all of our camps will provide you with valuable teaching experience, the chance to backpack across Europe, and the opportunity to immerse yourself in a local culture.
