We are delighted to invite you to join us in China. China was the home of Gotoco 2011-COVID, and since it re-opened in January 2023 we are delighted to be offering a select number of our best partnered programmes! If you’re looking to spend six-eight weeks in one of the most hyped and exciting countries in Asia, + gain a teaching qualification, Gotoco welcomes you.
Our placements are funded and that includes accommodation*, meals**, language and culture introductions, and TEFL certification. Please note that you will need to fund your own flights and visa for China. They are intended to help you to launch a career in this exciting sector, with skills and insights gained transferable to teaching and other career routes in China – or anywhere in the world.

* Accommodation varies according to the programme and it will usually be a shared room. If a participant chooses to travel

What do you get?
Our short-term China Teaching Programme is your launchpad for a global and impactful career. On the programme, you will receive:
- Funding to cover your TEFL, meals and accommodation.
- TEFL training and certification
- Chinese Language and Culture Lessons
- Teaching placement in a supportive school or summer camp in China, with accommodation and meals covered, and some cultural and adventure activities.
- 5-day tour of our base in the beautiful mountains of Yangshuo
- Professional development mentoring and training throughout your time on the programme, with a focus on teaching and social enterprise. We do this so, that even in your short time with us, you take the first steps in a lifetime of interesting and impactful living.
- Personal and community support, including 24/7 support for emergencies.
What does the teaching involve?
You will be teaching English and international culture to local Chinese students, usually on an activities summer camp or in a primary school learners setting.
- By teaching local students you will have to opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture as the students love to tell you all about it
- You will receive continuous professional development support and mentoring to support you in your teaching and with your future career plans.
- Summer camps in China mainly focus on activities, learning through fun, and content-language integrated learning. This means there will usually be limited classroom teaching and you will teach children English through games and activities.
Why China?
We aim to contribute to increasing understanding between China and ‘the West’ by implementing a broad range of educational, cultural exchange and exploration opportunities between China and ‘the West’.
One of our main projects is our annual Summer Camp TEFL Teaching project which takes place across diverse locations in China. This is a funded opportunity offered to 100s of students per year from across the UK. All participants on this programme are provided with funded TEFL certification, meals, accommodation, beginner Chinese lessons and a 5-day tour of our base in the beautiful mountains of Yangshuo – a small town not far from the Vietnamese border. This is an excellent way to undertake useful work experience whilst exploring a fascinating country – all funded.
How do you apply?
To apply you need to:
- Completed high school/A-level/college
- Be an advanced level English speaker, e.g a native speaker or otherwise have native-level English.
- Have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for funding (through citizenship, residency, leave to remain, student visas, et al.)*
- Have a clear criminal record
- Be available and excited to travel to China!
- Holding a prior TEFL certificate is a bonus, but not required.
This programme is ideal for anyone who wants to explore building a life as a teacher abroad, including recent graduates, mid-career changers, college grads and those from ‘non-traditional’ educational backgrounds.
